How long do you have to live in a house before you sell it?

Generally, when we buy a house, we hope to make it a forever home. However, sometimes circumstances can change in life, and you may find yourself wanting to sell your home soon after you have bought it. This could be for various reasons from job relocation, a growing family, or even a change in finances. Whatever your reason the whole process can be very stressful, and you may suddenly have questions like How long do I have to live in my house before I sell it?

Selling your home quickly can raise lots of red flags for both your lender and potential buyer, unless you have a very genuine reason for the sale, so you could be finding yourself having to convince everyone. If there is a mortgage involved, then the rule usually is that you would have to live in your home for six months before you sell it.
